Whether you're working, streaming, scrolling or downloading, a strong, reliable Wi-Fi connection shouldn’t stop at the lounge room. Sometimes a few small changes can make all the difference.

How Wi-Fi Works

Think of your Wi-Fi router as the ‘heart’ of your internet connection. From a single link with your nbn® connection box, your router shares a network among all of your connected devices using a Wi-Fi signal. This allows devices such as computers, mobile devices, and other equipment, like security cameras and EV chargers, to interface with the internet.

Location matters

Place your router in a spot where it can create the most effective coverage (and not hidden in a cupboard).

  • Move your modem to a central point to maximise its ability to send a strong signal throughout your home.
  • Place it well off the floor—desk or shelf height is ideal, as being too high can also be as bad as too low.
  • Keep the modem away from thick walls and solid objects which can block your Wi-Fi signal.
  • Aim for line-of-sight between your Wi-Fi router and connected devices, with the signal passing through as few objects as possible.

Add a booster to extend your signal

  • In larger or non-standard homes, a mesh booster can help fill black spots and get the signal to every room.
