FAQs

What is the nbn® FTTP upgrade program?

nbn® have begun an FTTP upgrade initiative also known as Fibre Connect and Fast Fibre that is designed to provide customers with faster internet to support the growth in connected devices and increase in the number of Australians working from home.

Select nbn® Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) customers will have the opportunity to connect to nbn® Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).

Who is eligible for a $0 FTTP upgrade?

nbn® have begun to rollout the fibre upgrades across Australia. By 2027, approximately 2 million addresses are expected to become eligible for upgrade from Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), to Fibre to the Premise (FTTP).

You can check your eligibility at the top of this page in our address checker, or by calling our Aussie-based sales team on 133 002.

How does FTTP differ from my current connection type (FTTN or FTTC)?

Fibre to the Premises means fibre is connected all the way to your premises, replacing traditional copper lines.

Fibre to the Node (FTTN) has a fibre connection running to a mini-exchange or node near your premises, which is then connected from that point to your property through a traditional copper line.

Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) uses a fibre connection almost all the way to your home, taking advantage of the existing copper wiring to complete the connection between your home and the curb.

What are the benefits of FTTP?

FTTP is the best nbn® connection for future-proofing your premises due to its superior speed and potential for future expansion.

The main advantages include the speed and reliability in transmitting signals which means users can both upload and download things quickly whilst enjoying high-quality streaming media.

MyOwn Tel supports a variety of high-speed plans on FTTP. Find more information on our plans here: https://www.myowntel.net/nbn/

Not available at all premises. Actual speeds may vary due to external factors including in-building wiring.

Will my existing equipment work on FTTP?

The majority of nbn® compatible routers will work on a FTTP service. You may just need to update your equipment settings before being able to use the service.

We cannot promise all BYO equipment will work on our service, however our team will do our best to help you get your existing equipment working if compatible.

Do I need to change my current plan?

You must sign up to one of our eligible high-speed plans when upgrading to FTTP. This plan change will only take effect once the FTTP connection is activated. Eligible plans include plan speeds above Fast (100/20).

What if I'm renting?

Good news: renters can still access the FTTP upgrade program. You'll just need to get permission from your landlord or rental agent, as the upgrade will involve some non-invasive construction activities.

Things You Need to Know

  • The nbn tier figures

The nbn tier figures represent wholesale maximum network speeds during off-peak periods. The nbn tier figures and 'typical busy period speeds' are not measures of customers' actual in-premises speeds, which may be slower. Not all customers receive these speeds. In some cases, the nbn tier figures and the typical busy period speeds are similar.

  • Plan prices

Your plan and add-ons may change (including price and inclusions). If you don't like a change, you can change your plan or cancel your plan add-ons. If you cancel, just pay out your accessories and services in full.

  • Speed Add-ons

Typical busy period speeds for the Ultrafast nbn tier are an estimate only. We do not have sufficient data yet to calculate the typical busy period speed of this add-on. Actual speeds experienced may be lower due to various factors including in-home setup and wiring. For ordinary personal domestic use.

  • Service Availability

Services not available to all areas or premises.

  • Installation

Standard installation includes self-installation of your modem, eligibility criteria apply. Extra charges apply for professional or non-standard installation of equipment and for premises in new developments.

  • Medical security alarms, lift phones and fire indicator panels

If you have alarms such as back-to-base security alarm or medi-alert connected to your home phone service, it’s important you contact your medical or security provider to check if they’re compatible with the service and identify what alternatives are available.

  • Brand notice

nbn®, nbn co and other nbn® logos and brands are registered trade marks of nbn co limited and used under licence.

  • nbn® New Development Charge

If you’re in a new development without existing phone or internet infrastructure, nbn co may impose a $300 New Development Charge (NDC) to connect you to the nbn network. This includes new lots, subdivisions, and granny flats with a separate address from the primary residence. If applicable, we will bill that charge to you and we will let you know at the time of confirming your order and you will have the option to cancel. Extra charges may apply for non-standard or professional installation of MyOwn Tel or nbn co equipment and for premises in new developments. Once you are connected to nbn fibre, you won’t be able to move to our copper network.
